KFC is partnering with Activision to help promote next month’s release of the “Guitar Hero World Tour” music video game with a host of promos.

People can register for a sweepstakes starting Oct. 26, for a chance to win a plasma TV, sound system, furniture, refreshment center, gaming consoles and up to 25 games.

In-store, customers who buy a 32-ounce beverage will receive a limited edition “Guitar Hero”collector’s cup and have a shot at winning other prizes.

The fast food chain is also working with Activision on a separate promotion that will give customers access to secret cheat codes to unlock special features within “Guitar Hero World Tour.” But for now, KFC is keeping mum on the details.

The promotion also includes a product placement deal in which KFC will be featured in the video game with branded cameos.

“KFC and “Guitar Hero” share a fan base that celebrates good music and great food,” Javier Benito, executive vice president of marketing and food innovation for KFC, said in a statement. “We’re confident chicken lovers and gaming enthusiasts will come together to enjoy our breakthrough in-game integration and amazing giveaways.”

“Guitar Hero,” which is published by RedOctane, uses a guitar-shaped controller to simulate the playing of music. The latest game features a redesigned guitar controller, a electronic drum kit controller and a microphone, as well as a Music Studio music creator that will let players compose, record, edit and share their tunes. Players will also be able to share their recordings with their friends online through GHTunes, where other gamers can download and play music.

TV spots and PR efforts will support the campaign. Weber Shandwick is handling the PR and DraftFCB will oversee advertising for the campaign’s launch. Mediaedge:cia, KFC’s media agency of record is in charge of the media surrounding the partnership.

Activision’s customer service department will now have to field complaints about pieces of chicken stuck in the GH guitars.
