Great article about RVLT MGMT artist, Dignan….
DIGNAN
A demoralizing recipe may include a flat tire amid a snowstorm in Virginia, a stolen trailer of music equipment, and touring in minus 4-degree weather without a heater. Amazingly, McAllen-based Dignan didn’t let any of those ingredients intimidate them from sharing their music with America.
Their unwavering passion may be attributed to the hope and prayers the quintet conveys in their songs. Each of Dignan’s numbers includes rock band staples like Trey Perez’ drums and Devin Garcia’s bass, but they are also infused with novelties like the accordion, trumpet, keyboard, and xylophone. At the helm of these instruments atypical to their genre are 26-year-old David Palomo and 27-year old Heidi Plueger. Throw in vocalist Andy Peña’s gentle voice and you have the antidote known as hope.
This hope translates to a more grandiose sound for the band whose moniker is inspired by Owen Wilson’s character of the same name from the little-known 1996 film “Bottle Rocket.”
“We have been working on new ideas and writing new material to put towards another release,” Garcia explained. “We’re hoping to have a new album out by mid to late June.”
The 21-year-old added that they are in the middle of booking festival and tour dates for mid-2009. Three of those festivals, which the band has revealed on their MySpace page, will be the Cornerstone Festival in Illinois, Space Camp Music Festival in Alabama, and the world-renowned South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in March.
SXSW, now in its 22nd year, is an annual Austin event that highlights the best of all genres of film, music, and interactive media. SXSW 2008 drew an estimated 149,000 visitors from all around the world into the heart of Texas, according to SXSW.com.
“It’s really great to finally get into the festival,” Garcia said. “It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a while now.”
